"Gu Unveils New Fashion Line ‘Ug’ in Collaboration with Jun Takahashi's Undercover"

Uniqlo’s sister brand Gu has announced the launch of a new clothing line called ‘Ug’, created in collaboration with Jun Takahashi’s Japanese brand Undercover.

In a statement, Gu shared that Ug is designed to build upon its existing identity, with Takahashi playing a key role in the creation of the debut collections.

The new line, titled ‘Silent/Noise’, reimagines Gu’s signature pieces such as sweatshirts, broadcloth shirts, and utility pants, offering unstructured styles that aim to introduce “a slight sense of discomfort and surprise” into everyday fashion.

In addition to reworked staples, Ug will feature exclusive items, including matching two-piece sets made from newly developed materials and pieces decorated with Takahashi’s original graphics.

Takahashi noted that while the collection is primarily designed for men, “most pieces are intended to be unisex.”

Reflecting on the project, Takahashi said, “When I design for Undercover, I aim to create bold designs unique to me. For Ug, however, I wanted to simplify Undercover’s strong aesthetic to make it suitable for daily wear.”

The launch of Ug marks an extension of Gu’s ongoing strategy of collaborating with prominent designers to create “better products” and gain insight into different approaches to manufacturing, which will be integrated into the Gu brand.

Ug will officially debut on March 14, 2025, available in Gu stores and online. A second collection is scheduled for release on April 18.
