Marc Marquez triumphs over his brother Alex to claim victory at the season-opening Thailand GP.

Six-time MotoGP champion Marc Marquez extended his flawless start with the factory Ducati team, completing a weekend double at the season-opening Thailand Grand Prix on Sunday. He finished ahead of his younger brother, Alex.

Marc, who started from pole and won the sprint race, made an electrifying start in the hot and humid conditions at Buriram International Circuit. However, Alex, who qualified second, seized the lead on the seventh lap of the 26-lap race.

Marc regained the lead with three laps to go, clinching his first MotoGP season-opening win since 2014. Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia, a two-time MotoGP champion and Marc's new teammate, took third, completing an all-Ducati podium.

"Yesterday, I was happy. Today, I’m super happy," Marc said to reporters. "This is a dream! It’s a dream start to my new journey with Ducati, especially here in Thailand, where I won my last four championships, and to be on the podium with my brother—it's incredible."

Marc had looked dominant all weekend, and it was only a matter of time before he overtook Alex, who is four years younger. Marc finished 1.732 seconds ahead of his brother.

With the win, Marc extended his lead in the MotoGP World Championship standings, now holding 37 points, eight more than Alex in second, and 14 ahead of third-place Bagnaia.

Marc now has 112 MotoGP podiums, matching his compatriot Dani Pedrosa.

Alex reflected on the race: "I thought Marc was trying not to use too much rear tire. I was pushing everything, using all my energy because when you don’t have tire, you need to push more, and you can't really save it. But in the end, second was the maximum we could achieve today. Keeping Pecco (Bagnaia) behind is not easy—he’s a world champion, and you need experience to do that."

Bagnaia, who lost last year's championship to the injured Jorge Martin by just 10 points, battled with Alex for second place. "I gave my all, but I couldn’t get too close to Alex to try and pass him," said Bagnaia. "Marc was just playing with us all race. My goal was P2, but we finished in P3."

Franco Morbidelli gained two places to finish in fourth, while rookie Ai Ogura, representing Trackhouse, continued his impressive MotoGP debut with a fifth-place finish.
